From November to April: why the date changed

When it published the 2026-2027 calendar in September, the CFJJB had placed the French Open on 21-22 November 2026, already in Marseille. It then opened the national season. However, the calendar checked in October now lists it on 3-4 April 2027. The federation has not commented on the move. Still, the logic is visible: the French Open thus joins the block of national championships, with No-Gi and Kids on 10-11 April in Paris, then the National GI Championship on 12-13 June. Moreover, it moves away from the Paris Fall Open IBJJF at the end of November, which draws the same competitors. For the record, the 2026 edition took place in spring in Orléans.

Who is the French Open for?

Every CFJJB member, whatever the belt. Unlike the Nova GP, reserved for selected athletes, the French Open is indeed an open competition. It offers divisions by belt, weight and age, Adult, Master and Kids, in GI and No-Gi. For a competitor from the South-East, it is therefore a national event without crossing France. For those aiming at the French national team, it is also the stage to get noticed before the National GI Championship in June.

How much does it cost?

The federation has not published the 2027 fees yet. However, every Open this season follows the same scale: €50 per format at the early-bird rate and €60 at full price, or €90 and €110 for the GI + No-Gi combo. The early-bird rate ends about three weeks before the event, then registration closes around ten days before. Finally, add the compulsory CFJJB licence, whose 2026-2027 price your club knows.

Planning landmarks

  • Registration: on the event page, cfjjb.com, as soon as it opens.
  • Early bird: until about three weeks before, so around mid-March.
  • Closing: around ten days before, so late March; earlier if capacity is reached.
  • Weigh-in: on the day of your division, gi or not according to the event page.
  • Accommodation: Marseille on the first weekend of April books up early.

Scale observed at the Antibes and Toulouse Opens 2026. Official fees to come on the event page.

Preparing for Marseille

If it is your first big competition, start with our complete BJJ competition guide, from weigh-in to the draw. Then revise point scoring and test yourself with the point scoring quiz. Besides, the autumn and winter Opens are good warm-ups for a South-East competitor: Antibes on 17-18 October, Guilherand-Granges in mid-December, then the National Masters Championship at the end of February, also in Antibes. Finally, every date is in our calendar of BJJ competitions in France.

What about kids?

The French Open offers Kids divisions, in GI and No-Gi. That said, a first regional Open remains the best entry point for a child, because the day is shorter and the crowd more family-like. If you are still hesitating, our article on BJJ for kids covers the basics. In practice, a child who has already been through a weigh-in and a draw approaches Marseille calmly.
