Referee Gestures Quiz: Combate, Parou, Lute and More

Combate, parou, lute: three words and a dozen gestures are all a referee needs to run a match. This twelve-question referee gestures quiz checks that you read the mat like they do.

What this quiz tests

This referee gestures quiz reviews the codified language of the official IBJJF rulebook (article 1.4): the verbal commands, the arm and armband identifying each athlete, the fingers raised for points, the arm parallel to the mat for the advantage, the clenched fist of the penalty, the crossed forearms of disqualification and the corner referees’ signals.

Twelve questions so you never again look at the scoreboard to understand what the referee just signaled: valuable for competitors, essential for coaches at matside. Our article on referee gestures and verbal commands completes this quiz.

Every gesture is illustrated in our article on referee gestures and verbal commands. And to keep playing, all our quizzes are on the BJJ-Rules quiz page.
